Reclaiming sovereignty demolishes the very claim to guardianship
Reclaiming sovereignty demolishes the very claim to guardianship

“Reclaiming sovereignty demolishes the very claim to guardianship: no occupying power owns a people, no opposition inherits them, and no ruler’s fall entitles anyone to take his place above the people’s will.

The power to decide returns in full to those to whom it belongs. Anyone they entrust with authority remains accountable to them and can be removed by their will. Any political project that makes a people’s deliverance conditional on surrendering their right to decide plants occupation within the promise of liberation.

Peoples are not spoils awaiting their captor’s fall; nor is liberation the opening of a prison gate so that those who emerge can sign themselves over to a new jailer.”
